DX7 Sound Banks

These new banks contains fresh patches generated by Deep DX, a custom AI system trained on thousands of DX7 patches, based on FM algorithm and sound category. A few sounds have been manually tweaked to ensure full playability and optimal sound levels.

The sounds are provided as zipped SysEx files, compatible with Yamaha DX7/TX7 synthesizers, Dexed, and other emulators. You may use these as is, or derivatives of them, in commercial or non-commercial recordings alike. I’m happy if you credit me, but it’s not mandatory. You may not sell or redistribute these patches as is, or as (part of) a sample library.

Finally, I won’t be able to provide support on how to load these into your instruments, and I am not liable for any damages or loss as a result of using these patches. (Why they would is beyond me, but I guess better safe than sorry). Usually, you can just use your favorite DAW or a popular editor such as Patch Base from coffeeshopped.com to transfer the banks to your instrument. Please be aware that loading a full bank onto a DX7 or TX7 will replace all contents of user memory, so backup your own sounds before transfer!

DDX0001 – FUN WITH ALGOS

Fun With Algorithms

Contains 11 banks of 32 patches where each bank is created for a specific algorithm. Explore typical sounds used by different FM algorithms, and learn which algorithm to use for different sounds!

DDX0002 – FM UNMASKED

FM Unmasked

Contains 3 banks of various sounds aimed to explore the domain of FM synthesis. From keys and pads to synth sounds, there’s a bit of everything in here.

DDX0003 – AI PIANOS

DX7 AI Pianos

Contains 3 banks of FM pianos from classic DX Rhodes to more esoteric variants.

DDX0004 – AI PADS

DX7 AI Pads

Two banks of evolving pad sounds, one created from the preferred FM algorithm for pads: Algorithm #9!

  1. Thank you, there are some really nice sounds in there!

I’m using them on iPhone with KQ Dixie, a DX7 clone that can layer multiple DX7 sounds imported from Sysex.

Can you please give some more information about your process? I’d be very interested in re-synthesizing audo samples using DX7 style FM synthesis.

I bet you already know this github project?

    • Hi! I searched for resynthesis applications before, but somehow missed the project you’ve pointed out, thanks for pointing it out! That’s exactly what I’m also interested in doing down the line so I am going to look at their approach and compare with my notes.

I am using a GAN setup where I trained one network to recognize “valid” DX patches by analyzing thousands of available DX7 sysex files, and the other to try to generate new ones with a quality that “fools” the discriminator. In doing this I realized that it would be fun to be able to categorize patches, so my current setup makes it possible to generate for instance “piano patches with a hint of pads”.

You can read more on my blog here, where I gradually introduce the different parts of my setup! Glad you found use for the patches, I’ll be putting up more in the near future, now that I have some time to spare again.

  2. Thanks so much for your great sounds !!
I actually would like to use some of them for my Elastic OSC iOS app.
Will send you a PM also …
    Cheers, Oliver
